Kapleshwar Temple, originally constructed in the 7th century by the Pallavas at the site where Santhome Church now stands. After the Portuguese destroyed the original temple in 1566, the Vijayanagara kings rebuilt it in the traditional Dravidian architectural style.

The Descent of the Ganges – This stunning monolithic sculpture stands 15 feet high and 100 feet long, making it one of the largest and most intricate of its kind in the world. Five Rathas – Mahabalipuram is home to around nine monolithic temples, a unique contribution of the Pallava dynasty to Indian architecture. Locally referred to as “Rathas” (meaning chariots), these temples resemble the ceremonial chariots used in temple processions.

Arjuna’s Penance – This massive bas-relief, measuring 27 x 9 meters, is one of the largest in the world. It features over 100 carvings of deities, animals, and sages. The relief depicts the legendary story from the Mahabharata, where Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, performed severe penance to Lord Shiva in order to receive a divine and powerful bow.

Brihadeeswarar Temple: It is one of the largest temples in India and is an example of Dravidian architecture during the Chola period. Built by Emperor Raja Raja Chola I and completed in 1010 AD, the temple turned 1000 years old in 2010.
