Chinese Fishing Nets:
The iconic Chinese fishing nets, crafted from teak wood and bamboo, operate on a balanced system. These large structures, rising to about 10 meters, are anchored to the beach and extend a netting span of nearly 20 meters. They offer a striking view and are a must-see in Kochi.

Jewish Street:
Jewish Street is a charming place to explore, filled with antique shops offering curios, old tableware, intricately carved wooden furniture, brass and bronze sculptures, and traditional house remnants. Antique vendors are often happy to share stories about the history behind their items and stores.

The Paradesi Synagogue (Closed on Fridays and Saturdays):
Situated in the heart of the Jewish quarter, the Paradesi Synagogue is over a century old and houses rare artifacts, making it one of the most visited and picturesque spots in Mattancherry.

This traditional art form, often referred to as a “narrative play,” is performed by male actor-dancers who convey stories through facial expressions, hand gestures, and vibrant movements.

Kalaripayattu Show, one of the world’s oldest and most scientific martial arts. Originating in Kerala, Kalaripayattu combines physical fitness, flexibility, and combat techniques. The performance showcases impressive feats, including jumps (chattom), runs (ottam), and somersaults (marichil), making it a thrilling display of agility and skill.

Vilachery, a traditional pottery village located near Madurai. Home to over 200 families, most of whom are potters, Vilachery is renowned for its handcrafted paper mache dolls, which are made for various festivals throughout the year. During the popular Navratri festival, these dolls are commonly displayed in homes across South India.

Meenakshi Temple:
The Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman Temple, also known as the Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple, is a stunning historical Hindu temple located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River. The temple is a revered pilgrimage site and an architectural marvel, known for its intricate sculptures and vibrant history.

Evening Ceremony:
In the evening, witness the spectacular Pooja ceremony at the Meenakshi Temple. During this event, the idols of Lord Sundareshwar (a form of Lord Shiva) and his consort Meenakshi (a form of Goddess Parvati) are carried in a grand procession to their dormitory for the night. It’s a truly mesmerizing experience that showcases the temple’s rich traditions.

Note: To visit the Meenakshi Temple, a dress code is required. Visitors must wear a half-sleeved or long-sleeved shirt/top and trousers. Sleeveless tops, shorts, or breeches are not allowed. Please note that non-Hindus are not permitted to enter the inner sanctum of the temple.

Devi Kanya Kumari Temple. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Shree Bhagavathy, worshipped in the form of an adolescent girl. Also known as Shree Baala Bhadra or Shree Baala, the goddess is revered as “Sakthi” (Durga or Parvati). The temple, located at the southernmost point of India, is a significant spiritual site.

Triveni Sangam in Kanyakumari, where the three major bodies of water—the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean—meet. This confluence is a sacred bathing spot and an important location at the southern tip of India.

Thiruvalluvar Statue. Standing tall at 41 meters, this statue of the Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar is a remarkable sight, visible from a great distance. The statue is set against the backdrop of the deep blue sky and the shimmering sea, adding to its grandeur.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a renowned monument in Kanyakumari. Situated on one of the two rocks about 500 meters offshore, the memorial is dedicated to Swami Vivekananda and is a popular tourist attraction. The rock is steeped in history and offers stunning views of the surrounding waters.

Kanyakumari Beach, which lies at the meeting point of the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean. The beach offers a unique experience where you can see the merging of three seas, with beautiful green and blue waters stretching into the horizon.

Sunset, In the evening, enjoy the Sunset at Kanyakumari. The view of the sun setting over the confluence of the three seas is a breathtaking sight. Kanyakumari is one of the few places in India where you can witness both the sunrise and the sunset from the same location.

Padmanabhapuram Palace, known as the largest wooden palace in India. This historic structure is primarily built from wood and granite, and it features remarkable attractions such as a pillar carved from a single fruit tree, a beautifully decorated Chinese chair, Belgian mirrors, Chinese vases, and a bed crafted from 64 different medicinal woods.

Mathur Aqueduct. Spanning the Pahrali River, this suspension bridge is an important landmark in Kanyakumari. The river itself originates from the Mahendragiri Hills in the Western Ghats, and the aqueduct is located in the village of Mathoor in the Thiruvattar Panchayat Union.

Continuing your journey, you’ll arrive in Poovar.

Boat ride on Neyyar Lake and the scenic village canals. The boat ride will take you to Poovar Beach, a beautiful spot where you can enjoy the serene backwaters and the golden sands of the beach, offering a picturesque view of the landscape.

After the boat ride, head to Kovalam.

Lighthouse Beach, one of the most popular attractions in the area. This pristine beach, located along the Arabian Sea, is famous for its 35-meter-high lighthouse at the southern end, which provides a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding coastline.

Hawa Beach, located about 1.5 kilometers from Lighthouse Beach. Known for its untouched beauty, it is one of the more serene beaches in India. However, due to strong currents, it’s advisable to avoid swimming here.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple for a photo stop. Dating back to the 8th century, this sacred temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the most revered temples of Lord Vishnu in India. The temple’s presiding deity is Lord Vishnu, depicted reclining on the cosmic serpent, Anantha. The temple is not only a spiritual site but also an architectural marvel.

On arrival in Kollam, visit:

Thevalli Palace, an important historical landmark situated by the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake. Once the residence of the Maharaja of Travancore, it was constructed between 1800 and 1819 during the reign of Gauri Parvathi Bai.

Jatayu Nature Park, a rock-themed adventure park that opened in November 2017. Dedicated to mythology and adventure tourism, the park offers a range of attractions including a 6D theatre, digital audio-visual room, ropeway, and Ayurvedic cave resort. It also features several outdoor adventure activities like paintball, laser tag, archery, bouldering, rock climbing, and air rifle shooting.

A houseboat cruise here is one of the best ways to experience the enchanting landscapes of this town, surrounded by lush greenery, coconut palms, and serene waters.

In the afternoon, take a smaller boat ride to explore the rural life along the backwaters. Pass through tranquil villages, vast rice fields, and coconut groves, where life has remained largely unchanged over the centuries.

Aymanam, a small village located on the outskirts of Kottayam. Known for its natural beauty and rich cultural diversity, Aymanam is a lesser-known gem of Kerala. The village is bordered by the vast Vembanad Lake on one side and the Meenachil River on the other, offering a peaceful and scenic experience. A relaxing boat cruise along these waters is a popular way to explore the village.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, one of the premier bird-watching spots in India. Spread over 14 hectares along the banks of Vembanad Lake, the sanctuary is home to numerous migratory birds that come from as far as the Himalayas and Siberia. The sight of these birds in flight is truly mesmerizing, making it a must-see for nature enthusiasts.
